Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Sunday placed four leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM) on a seven-day remand in connection with an alleged extortion incident at the Gulshan residence of former Awami League lawmaker Shammi Ahmed.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman passed the order after police produced the accused before the court and sought a 10-day remand for interrogation.
The accused placed on remand are Abdur Razzak Riyad, acting convener of the central committee of ADSM’s combined private university unit; Ibrahim Hossain, convener of ADSM’s Dhaka city unit; and ADSM members Sakadoun Siam and Sadab. The court also granted police custody of another accused, Md Aminul Islam.
Earlier in the day, Siddique Abu Zafar, husband of ex-lawmaker Shammi Ahmed, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station. The complaint named six ADSM leaders and members and mentioned 10 to 12 unidentified individuals.
