462 primary candidates in DUCSU elections, 47 suspended
  Bangla Press Desk: A total of 462 primary candidates have been declared valid for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, while 47 aspirants lost their candidacy due to faulty nomination papers. Chief Returning Officer Prof. Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin released the statistics on Thursday night. According to the data, there are no female candidates in three posts of the central parliament. * General Secretary (GS): 18 candidates, including 1 female * Assistant General Secretary (AGS): 24 candidates, including 4 female * Liberation War & Student Movement Secretary: 14 candidates, including 1 female * Science & Technology Secretary: 10 candidates, including 1 female
* Career Development Secretary: 7 candidates, including 2 female * Social Service Secretary: 13 candidates, including 1 female * Human Rights & Law Secretary: 8 candidates, including 3 female * Health & Environment Secretary: 12 candidates, including 3 female
* Student Transport Secretary: 9 candidates, no female * Sports Secretary: 12 candidates, including 1 female * Research & Publication Secretary: 7 candidates, including 4 female * Common Room, Reading Room & Cafeteria Secretary: 2 candidates, including 9 female * International Secretary: 15 candidates, no female
* Literature Secretary: 17 candidates, including 2 female * Members (total 215): 191 candidates, including 24 female In total, 402 students have been announced as valid primary candidates for DUCSU central parliament, of which 60 are female. For the hall union elections, 1,108 candidates have been declared valid, while one was suspended. Returning officers said candidacies were cancelled due to issues such as incorrect voter numbers, errors in names or registration numbers, inconsistencies in parents’ names, or signature mismatches. Candidates may appeal to the Election Commission until August 23. Final decisions after scrutiny will be announced on August 24. Strict Restrictions on Candidates The Election Commission has also imposed a series of restrictions to ensure a fair electoral environment. According to a notification signed by Chief Returning Officer Prof. Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, from now until September 10, 2025, candidates are prohibited from engaging in service-oriented activities, distributing gifts, offering financial assistance, arranging entertainment, or any similar acts. Violation will be treated as a breach of the election code of conduct. In a separate directive, the commission stated that no campaigning will be allowed until August 26, 2025. Campaigning before the stipulated date will be considered a punishable offense under the DUCSU Election Code of Conduct 2025.
