6th board meeting of Ziaur Rahman Foundation held in Dhaka
  Bangla Press Desk:  The 6th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) was held at 9:00pm on Saturday at the Foundation’s office in Dhaka. The meeting was presided over by the Vice President of the Foundation, Dr Zubaida Rahman, and conducted by Executive Director Professor Dr Farhad Halim Donar. The session began with a prayer and a minute of silence, led by Professor Dr Farhad Halim Donar, in memory of the innocent children who lost their lives in the recent tragic aircraft accident involving students of Milestone School and College. A formal condolence motion was adopted, expressing prayers for the peace of the departed souls. The meeting featured detailed discussions on several humanitarian and public health initiatives, including the ongoing dengue outbreak, the recent flooding in Feni district, public awareness leaflet distribution, and the organisation of free veterinary medical camps.
Dr Sajid gave a presentation on the current status of dengue in Bangladesh and measures to control its spread. Effective strategies for promoting a healthy environment and safe animal practices were also deliberated. Professor Dr Shakil, Asia Pacific Coordinator, discussed the increasing dengue-related mortality rates. Engineer Ashraf Reza Faridi delivered a comprehensive presentation on the 2024 floods and the current flooding situation in Feni, outlining both short- and long-term mitigation strategies. Agricultural expert Bachchu shared insights into the Foundation’s innovation in producing and distributing improved “Komol” seed varieties to support marginal farmers. Professor Dr Obayed discussed the transformation of declining bacterial fibres into multipurpose materials that could serve as alternatives to plastic. In her closing remarks, Dr Zubaida Rahman expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Foundation members and doctors of Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) for standing beside the grieving families of the Milestone School tragedy with courage and compassion.
