Sreepur (Gazipur) Correspondent: An incident involving the shooting of a bKash distributor's employee and the robbery of approximately Tk 3 crore has occurred in Sreepur, Gazipur. The incident took place around 6:30 PM on Friday (October 9) in the Karnapur area along the Sreepur-Gosinga regional road.
Himel Ahmed, the Accounts Manager for 'Bhaluka Channel Enterprise Limited, Sreepur'—a distributor for the mobile banking service bKash—sustained a gunshot wound during the incident. Additionally, the private car's driver, Lal Mia, and Area Manager Farhad Hossain were injured. After receiving initial treatment at the Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, the injured Himel was transferred to Gazipur's Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.
Mostafizur Rahman, the manager of the company's Sreepur office, stated that 'Bhaluka Channel Enterprise Limited, Sreepur' operates bKash services in the Maona Chowrasta area.
The company faced a cash shortage on Friday due to bank closures and the pressure to pay garment workers' wages. To address this, and in accordance with bKash's instructions, they collected Tk 4 crore in cash from 'Hazrat Ali Munshi,' a bKash distributor in Narsingdi Sadar. The money was being transported to Sreepur in a private car, packed into four sacks.
He reported that around 6:30 PM, as the private car reached the Karnapur area on the Sreepur-Gosinga regional road, miscreants arriving on 10 to 12 motorcycles intercepted the vehicle.
They smashed the car's windows using locally made weapons, including Chinese axes. Subsequently, the miscreants drew a pistol and shot Accounts Manager Himel Ahmed. They then fled with three of the four sacks. Others were injured during the scuffle that ensued while the money was being snatched.
Mostafizur Rahman added that the exact amount of the stolen money has not yet been determined.
However, they estimate that approximately Tk 3 crore was looted.
Mohammad Shahinur Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station, stated that the police have initiated an investigation upon receiving news of the incident. Information is being gathered from the scene and the injured individuals. Legal action will be taken regarding the incident following the investigation.
