After Mamata, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has now been detained.
BanglaPress Desk: Following Trinamool Congress chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has now been detained while participating in a protest in Delhi.
On Saturday (October 10), police detained him from the streets of Delhi while he was protesting against India's Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. With the detention of two former Chief Ministers, political instability surrounding the Delhi protests has reached a critical level, raising fears that the agitation could spread further.
Earlier, popular YouTubers Dhruv Rathee and Abhijit Dipke were detained. Gurugram police detained Dhruv Rathee before he could join the protest in Delhi. Meanwhile, Delhi police detained Abhijit Dipke—founder of the CJP—from inside the aircraft immediately after he landed in the capital. The situation became tense when police officers boarded the plane to take him into custody; Dipke live-streamed the entire incident on Instagram.
Separately, the venue for the protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)—demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar—has been changed. Neha Bora, National President of the All India Students Association (AISA), announced that the venue has been shifted from Jantar Mantar to Dilli Haat.
Clashes had occurred during a previous protest on July 20; authorities have now taken precautionary measures to avoid a similar situation.
A massive crackdown is underway regarding the protest called by the CJP against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar. The central government plans to deploy over 20,000 police and central armed police force personnel across the capital to maintain law and order. Hundreds of individuals have already been detained from various parts of the city.
According to NDTV, the police did not grant permission for this protest. Authorities have taken several steps to control the situation, including a decision to close the entry and exit gates at 45 Delhi Metro stations. These stations include Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, and Kashmere Gate.
