Altercation between Rumeen Farhana and the OC; police file a General Diary (GD)
Bangla Press Desk: A General Diary (GD) has been filed by the police following an altercation between Independent Member of Parliament Barrister Rumeen Farhana and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarail Police Station in Brahmanbaria, Manjur Kader Bhuiyan, at the police station premises.
The filing of the GD came to light on Friday night (October 23).
OC Manjur Kader Bhuiyan declined to provide specific details regarding the GD. However, he mentioned that the police are gathering information about the individuals who accompanied Rumeen Farhana to the police station during the incident.
Mohammad Arafatul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) for Brahmanbaria, stated that a GD has been filed documenting the incident. "This is not a formal complaint; we routinely file a GD whenever any significant event occurs," he explained.
Previously, on Thursday night (October 22), Rumeen Farhana engaged in an argument with the OC at the Sarail Police Station, citing allegations of irregularities and corruption, as well as the failure to provide police security during her visit to Durga Puja pavilions.
According to reports, although a request had been made to provide security for MP Rumeen Farhana during her visits to the Durga Puja pavilions, OC Manjur Kader Bhuiyan failed to make the necessary arrangements.
Seeking an explanation for the lack of security and to address allegations of irregularities and corruption against the OC, Rumeen Farhana arrived at the police station around 8:00 PM on Thursday. She remained in the OC’s office until 9:00 PM.
During this time, an individual accompanying Rumeen Farhana alleged that the OC had taken a bribe of 30,000 taka from him. The OC denied the bribery allegation, claiming instead that the individual had been coached by Rumeen Farhana to make the accusation.
At one point during the ensuing argument, Rumeen Farhana labeled OC Manjur Kader Bhuiyan a "thief" associated with the Awami League.
Refuting Rumeen Farhana’s allegations, OC Manjur Kader Bhuiyan told journalists that the MP had arrived at the police station with hundreds of people, creating a volatile situation and a mob-like atmosphere. He has coached some people to spout nonsense. He claims that I take money from brick kilns—yet all the brick kilns in the *haor* (wetland) area are currently underwater. Furthermore, we had implemented security measures throughout the entire police station area during the *Puja* festival; however, it was not feasible at that time to assign a dedicated police team to him personally.
