Anee Raises Concerns Over Jamaat, NCP Role in Anti-Fascist Front

Bangla Press Desk:  Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie on Tuesday accused Jamaat-e-Islami, its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, and the National Citizen Party (NCP) of attempting to divide Bangladesh's anti-fascist political forces through provocative politics.

Speaking at a July Rally organised by the Lakshmipur district BNP at the N Ahmadiya Government Primary School ground, the minister alleged that the NCP had aligned itself politically with Jamaat-Shibir.

He claimed that, apart from what he described as "fascist forces," there are two political camps in Bangladesh: one led by Jamaat-Shibir and the other representing Bangladeshi nationalism founded under the leadership of Ziaur Rahman and later carried forward by Khaleda Zia.

The minister also criticised what he described as repeated personal attacks and offensive remarks against Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, saying the BNP had exercised restraint despite continued provocation.

Referring to Nasiruddin Patwary, Annie said the BNP does not tolerate indecent language or conduct in politics. He said the party operates under a constitution and established rules, adding that Tarique has taken disciplinary action, including expelling party members, against those who violate party discipline. The minister further alleged that following the political developments of 5 August, opponents had not only divided the spirit of the July movement but had also created divisions in Bangladesh's politics and weakened anti-fascist unity.

Recalling the killing of Krishak Dal leader Sajib in Lakshmipur on 18 July 2023, Annie claimed the incident reflected a broader pattern of political violence across the country.

The rally was presided over by district BNP leaders and attended by BNP Chairperson's Adviser and Lakshmipur-2 MP Abul Khayer Bhuiyan as the chief guest. Special guests included Lakshmipur-1 MP Shahadat Hossain Selim, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Vice-President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury, and several local BNP leaders.
