Armed Forces Promotions Should Be Merit-Driven, Says PM Tarique Rahman
Bangla Press Desk: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday said there is no scope for personal or political considerations in the promotion of Bangladesh Army officers, stressing that merit and professional competence must remain the sole criteria.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Army Headquarters Promotion Board-2026, the Prime Minister described promotions as a vital institutional process that must uphold professionalism, integrity and fairness.
"Promotion is an important institutional process. The assessment of eligible officers must be based on their professional competence, leadership qualities, discipline, integrity, trustworthiness, loyalty and overall performance. There is no room for any personal or political consideration in this process," he said.
The Prime Minister also praised the Bangladesh Army for its contribution to safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty, as well as its role in maintaining internal law and order, ensuring national stability and assisting the civil administration during natural disasters and other emergencies.He expressed his sincere appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff and all members of the Bangladesh Army for their continued service to the nation.
Earlier, upon his arrival at the Army Headquarters, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was received by the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of General Staff (CGS).
During the ceremony, the Army Chief thanked the Prime Minister for attending the inauguration of the Promotion Board despite his busy schedule, describing his presence as a source of encouragement for the armed forces.
