Army deployed in six districts based on intelligence reports: Home Minister

Bangla Press Desk:   Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said army personnel have been deployed in six districts based on intelligence reports indicating subversive activities by the banned Awami League.

He also said that the country's law and order situation has not deteriorated and that the government remains fully vigilant.

Speaking outside his office at the Secretariat on Monday (22 June), Salahuddin Ahmed said the current law and order situation is better than before.

He also noted that holding meetings and rallies is a democratic right of opposition parties and contributes to the development of democracy.

The minister added that security forces are strengthened whenever necessary, and that the current deployment of the army was carried out on the basis of intelligence information to prevent alleged disruptive activities by the banned Awami League.Earlier on Monday, the Political-2 Wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an official directive regarding the deployment.

According to the letter, there are concerns that various banned organizations may attempt to create unrest and carry out acts of sabotage through illegal processions, showdowns, and other activities in different parts of the country. Such actions could potentially worsen the overall law and order situation and cause significant damage to life and property.

To maintain public order, ensure public safety, and protect lives and property, the government has instructed the deployment of the required number of army personnel under the "In Aid to Civil Power" framework from 22 June to 30 June in the following areas: Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Chattogram Metropolitan Area, Gazipur Metropolitan Area, Narayanganj District, Gopalganj District, and Faridpur District.
