Arrest Order Issued Against Ex-SP Jahirul in Rape Case Investigation
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka tribunal on Monday issued an arrest warrant against former Superintendent of Police (SP) of Magura district Mohammad Jahirul Islam in a case filed over establishing physical relations with a woman by luring her to marriage.
Judge Muntasir Ahmed of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 passed the order, said the plaintiff's lawyer Md Azmat Hossain.
According to the court sources, the investigating officer of the case recently filed a probe report citing that prima facie evidence has been found supporting the allegations against the accused.
Monday had been fixed for a hearing on whether to accept the report in the presence of the accused. However, the court issued an arrest warrant as the accused Jahirul failed to appear before it.
According to the complaint, Jahirul became acquainted and developed a personal relationship with the complainant in January 2021 during his tenure as SP of Magura.
In addition, he developed physical relations with the complainant at various instances by luring her into marriage. The accused allegedly continued the affair with her even after her transfer to Police Headquarters at Dhaka.
But in July 2025, when the complainant insisted on fulfilling the marriage promise, the accused denied it and threatened her with consequences. The complainant then lodged a General Diary (GD) in Vatara Police Station on 15 July 2025 and also filed a written complaint with the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The victim later filed a complaint with the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on 20 May after the mediation efforts through the relatives failed.
The tribunal took cognizance of the complaint and ordered a judicial inquiry. On 14 July, Special Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmudul Haque filed the inquiry report, citing that the allegations made are prima facie supported by the allegations.
