Arrest warrant issued against former state minister Murad Hassan
Bangla Press Desk: A court in Jamalpur has issued an arrest warrant against former state minister Murad Hassan in a defamation case over disparaging remarks about BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her family. Senior Judicial Magistrate Romana Akter of Sarishabari Amli Court (3rd Court) issued the order today. The case concerns Murad’s defamatory comments made in 2021 during his tenure as a junior minister, on a talk show ‘Pansiana’, aired via the YouTube and Facebook page. Murad allegedly made offensive and derogatory remarks about Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman, and granddaughter Zaima Rahman. The show's host, Mahi Uddin Helal Nahid, has also been named as a co-accused.
Both were summoned in May but failed to appear over the past three months, prompting the court to issue arrest warrants. The complaint states the comments to be false, obscene, and malicious, allegedly causing damages exceeding Tk 10,000 crore and tarnishing the country's image. The case was filed on 10 September 2024 by Lion Md Rumel Sarkar, former Chhatra Dal leader and vice president of Sarishabari Truck Owners’ Association.
