ASP comes under attack for protesting extortion in Narsingdi

Bangla Press Desk: Narsingdi Sadar Circle additional superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain was seriously injured on Saturday (4 October) after being assaulted by accomplices of two extortionists detained earlier by police.

The incident took place around 10:30am at Arshinagar intersection in Narsingdi municipality, shortly after a police team led by Anwar apprehended two men who were allegedly extorting money from drivers of CNG and battery-run auto-rickshaws.

According to Anwar, he and his team had gone to recover a woman’s body from the Puranpara area of Sadar upazila earlier that morning. On their way back, they caught two extortionists red-handed while they were collecting money from vehicle drivers in the middle of the road.

Soon after the arrests, a group of about 40 people gathered at the scene and demanded the release of the detainees, police sources said.

When Anwar refused, the group launched a violent attack, punching and kicking him, leaving him badly injured. Amid the chaos, the attackers managed to free the two arrested men and fled.

Anwar was initially taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where doctors provided first aid before referring him to Rajarbagh Police Hospital in Dhaka for specialized treatment.

Dr. Farida Gulshan Kabir, residential medical officer at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, said Anwar had suffered blood clots in his neck and legs as a result of the assault. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
