Bangla Press Desk: Ever since Ranveer Singh walked out of ‘Don 3’, there has been a lot of speculation about the future of the popular franchise and its cast. Recent reports in the Indian media claimed that Shah Rukh Khan could return as ‘Don’, but on one condition – the film will be directed by ‘Jawan’ fame director Atlee. However, sources close to the film have exclusively rubbished the rumours as completely false.
A source close to the film clearly stated, ‘The rumours of Atlee being roped in for Don 3 are completely baseless. He was never approached for this film and has no connection with the franchise.’
Earlier, in an interview with Hindustan Times in 2023, Atlee had spoken about his experience working with Shah Rukh Khan. He said, ‘I have learnt a lot from Khan sir – patience, working with precision and taking cinema to the next level. Shah Rukh sir has shown me the way to progress. My next film will have a better idea and we will make something bigger than 'Jawan'.
Notably, Atlee's 'Jawan', released in 2023, is one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. The film entered the Rs 1000 crore club worldwide within just 18 days of its release. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the film also starred Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. Sanjay Dutt and Deepika Padukone played cameos. Jawan was released on 7 September 2023 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Meanwhile, in August 2023, Farhan Akhtar released a special video announcing that Ranveer Singh will play the lead role in the third film in the Don franchise. In the first look released, Ranveer, who was sitting with his back to the camera, lights a cigarette, introduces himself as 'Don' and turns to look at the camera.
Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan played this iconic role. However, after the rumors of Ranveer Singh's exit, there has been no official announcement from the makers about the final casting of 'Don 3'. However, there are strong rumors that Shah Rukh Khan may be seen in the third installment as well.
