Awami League Will No Longer Be Allowed to Do Politics by Public: Speaker
Speaker of the National Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad.
Bangla Press Desk: Speaker of the National Parliament, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, *Bir Bikram*, has described the Awami League—whose activities are now prohibited—as a corrupt and terrorist organization. He stated that the people of Bangladesh will never again allow them to engage in politics.
He remarked that the Awami League held state power solely to plunder the nation’s resources. Members of Parliament and ministers from the party face allegations of amassing vast wealth abroad through such looting. Reports also indicate that a state minister from the former fascist government owns over two hundred houses overseas.
He made these remarks on Wednesday (October 21) while speaking as the chief guest at a reception organized by the Tazumuddin Upazila unit of the BNP and its affiliated organizations, held at the Tazumuddin Upazila Parishad hall.
The reception was held to honor his election as the Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG) of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
During the event, the Tazumuddin Upazila branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami also extended its congratulations and presented floral greetings to the Speaker.
Reflecting on the injustices and crimes that occurred in his constituency during the previous regime, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed noted that in 2001, Tofail Ahmed was his opponent. Following Tofail Ahmed’s defeat, Sheikh Hasina brought in a criminal from Dhaka to contest the election.
He further revealed that this individual, through corrupt means, had acquired 500 *bighas* of land in Lalmohan and multiple properties in Dhaka. However, following the events of August 5, he fled the country with his family, leaving these assets behind.
Promising development for the constituency, the Speaker announced that Tazumuddin would be upgraded to a municipality. Additionally, a park will be constructed along the banks of the Meghna River for recreational purposes. He also issued a stern warning that no leniency would be shown toward criminals.
The event, presided over by Tazumuddin Upazila BNP President Golam Mostafa Mintu and moderated by General Secretary Omar Asad Rintu, featured speeches from various leaders of the BNP and its affiliated wings. Members and activists from the district and upazila-level BNP units and their associated organizations were also in attendance.
Prior to this, the Speaker held a consultative meeting with government officials of the upazila. Source: BSS
