Bangla Press Desk: The Houthi armed group in Yemen has fired a ballistic missile targeting Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The Saudi-led coalition reported that the missile was intercepted and destroyed in the skies over Riyadh. This was reported by Al Jazeera on Saturday (October 24).
Prior to this incident, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense authority had issued an emergency alert for the capital, Riyadh, as well as the regions of Najran and Wadi al-Dawasir. It was later announced that the danger had passed in all three areas.
In a post on the social media platform X, a spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition stated that the ballistic missile fired by the Houthis toward Riyadh was intercepted and destroyed by air defense systems.
Earlier, the Saudi Civil Defense authority had announced in a separate post that alerts had been issued for Riyadh, Najran, and Wadi al-Dawasir via the national early-warning platform. The authority warned residents of potential danger and urged them to follow safety guidelines.
The authorities later confirmed that the threat had subsided in all three regions. Nevertheless, the Civil Defense authority advised residents to continue adhering to safety instructions and to refrain from gathering in crowds or capturing photos and videos. Previously, the Saudi-led coalition had also reported the interception and destruction of a drone in the eastern part of the country.
