Bangladesh confirm qualification for AFC Under-20 Women’s Asian Cup
Bangla Press Desk:   After a tense wait, Bangladesh’s under-20 women’s football team has officially qualified for the AFC Under-20 Women’s Asian Cup, set to be held in Thailand from 1 to 18 April, 2026. Bangladesh earned their place as one of the three best runners-up across the eight qualifying groups. The tournament will feature the eight group champions, the three best runners-up, alongside host nation Thailand. The final confirmation came after decisive results across other groups: DPR Korea’s 11-0 victory over Nepal (Group A), Japan’s 11-0 win against Iran (Group F), China’s 8-0 triumph over Lebanon (Group E), and Vietnam’s 3-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan (Group B). Bangladesh had earlier defeated Laos 3-1 and Timor-Leste 8-0 in their first two group matches but fell 6-1 to Korea Republic in their final match on Sunday. Despite this loss, the young Tigresses secured qualification to the main tournament.
This achievement adds to the success of coach Peter Butler’s side, who also won the SAFF Under-20 Women’s Championship recently. Meanwhile, the senior women’s team has qualified for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup scheduled in Australia starting 1 March, 2026.This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
