Bangladesh Embassy in Denmark rejects allegations against Bangladeshi students

Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh Embassy in Copenhagen has strongly objected to what it described as sweeping and unjust allegations of visa misuse against Bangladeshi students in Denmark.

In a press release issued Wednesday (1 Oct), the embassy stated that portraying all Bangladeshi students as abusing student visas to enter the Danish labor market is misleading and unfair.

It emphasised that the majority of students arrive in Denmark through proper procedures, fulfill all admission and residency requirements, and manage high tuition fees along with living expenses.

The embassy acknowledged that some dishonest education consultancy agencies had misled students with exaggerated promises about opportunities in Denmark. This has pushed many students into financial pressure, leading them to take up part-time jobs, which are permitted under Danish law. While such work may affect their studies, the embassy stressed that it does not question their integrity, talent, or intentions.

Highlighting the positive contributions of Bangladeshi students, the statement said most are hardworking, law-abiding, and play a constructive role in Danish universities and society. Many have earned fully funded scholarships for postgraduate studies, demonstrating their academic merit. In addition, Bangladeshi researchers, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty members are contributing significantly to research and teaching in Danish universities, enriching scientific knowledge and fostering academic cooperation.

The embassy reiterated that students should not be unfairly generalized and confirmed its commitment to work closely with Danish authorities, universities, and the Bangladeshi community to ensure that genuine students’ aspirations are respected, while cases of misuse are addressed appropriately.
