Bangladesh Players Missing from Women’s IPL Auction Once More
Bangla Press Desk: The popularity of franchise cricket is growing worldwide, with its influence increasingly evident in women’s cricket as well. However, no Bangladeshi cricketer has secured a place in the auction for the upcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), one of the most popular women’s franchise tournaments.
England batter Sophia Dunkley and Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux have received the highest base price of INR 5 million for this year’s auction. The second-highest base price of INR 4 million has been set for India’s G Kamalini and Kiran Navgire, along with Australia’s Heather Graham and Jess Jonassen.
Meanwhile, 30 cricketers have registered for the auction at a base price of INR 3 million. Notable names on the list include Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu, Australia’s Grace Harris and South Africa’s Chloe Tryon.
Participation in overseas franchise leagues could play an important role in developing women’s cricket in Bangladesh and increasing the national team’s experience at the international level. These tournaments offer players opportunities to compete alongside some of the world’s leading cricketers and share dressing rooms with them. They also provide a platform for players to showcase their skills and abilities.
Bangladesh’s Jahanara Alam and Salma Khatun previously had the opportunity to play in the Women’s IPL. However, no Bangladeshi women’s cricketer has participated in the competition since them. As a result, the absence of Bangladeshi players from the upcoming auction has once again become a talking point for the country’s women’s cricket.
