Bangladesh Police returned a stolen laptop to a German tourist.
BanglaPress Desk: Police have recovered the belongings—including a laptop and a camera—of German tourist Cyril Lander-Weber, which had gone missing at Natore Railway Station during his visit to Bangladesh.
On Tuesday (October 13), Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir formally handed over the recovered MacBook laptop to the foreign tourist at the Police Headquarters. Upon receiving the laptop, Cyril expressed deep gratitude to the Bangladesh Police and shared his positive experiences regarding his travels in the country.
Cyril had arrived in Bangladesh on September 23 to visit historical and scenic sites. On October 7, while waiting at the Natore Railway Station to travel to India via the Darshana border, he left his laptop and camera in the waiting room to withdraw cash from a nearby ATM booth. When he returned, he found his belongings missing. The lost laptop contained important documents related to his work from the past six months.
After the loss, Cyril visited the Natore Police Station to seek assistance and submitted a formal written complaint. In response, joint recovery teams comprising Natore Sadar Police, Natore District Police, Railway Police, and Tourist Police launched an operation. Following days of tireless effort, the police successfully recovered the laptop on the night of October 11 (around 9:30 PM) from 'Noor Clothing Store' in the Kapuriapatti area of Natore Sadar.
The IGP extended special recognition for the swift resolution of the foreign tourist's complaint and the recovery of the laptop, noting that these actions enhanced the image of the Bangladesh Police. He awarded financial rewards to Natore Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mansur Rahman and Sub-Inspector Mohammad Shahadat Hossain for their commendable work. Additionally, the IGP instructed all police units to ensure the safety of both domestic and foreign citizens and to maintain a tourism-friendly environment.
