Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh has reported nine more deaths from dengue over the past 24-hour period, marking the highest single-day toll recorded so far this year.
During this period, 1,571 new patients were admitted to hospital with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the details of deaths and hospital admissions in a bulletin on Tuesday.
With these latest figures, total fatalities from dengue this year have risen to 130, while total hospital admissions have reached 45,475.
Among the new patients, 196 were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka North City Corporation and 134 in Dhaka South.
Outside the two city corporations, 408 patients were admitted to hospitals within the Dhaka Division.
In addition, 142 were hospitalised in Barishal, 117 in Chattogram, 242 in Khulna, 77 in Mymensingh, 71 in Rangpur, 116 in Rajshahi, and eight in Sylhet.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and fatalities since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. That year also saw the most deaths with 1,705.
