Bangladesh reviews India, Indonesia models to control essential goods pricing
Bangla Press Desk: The government has launched an initiative to study international market models, including those of India and Indonesia, to develop a framework for controlling essential goods prices.
Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir outlined the plan in parliament on Sunday.
Responding to Chattogram-13 MP Sarwar Jamal Nizam, he said the ministry is taking steps to ensure the supply of necessities at reasonable prices.
“Several measures have already been implemented to regulate the market,” he said.
“We are reviewing successful models from India, Indonesia, and other countries to create an ideal framework. Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) has been tasked with conducting the necessary research.”
The minister also mentioned additional government steps, including collaboration with Bhutan, trade agreements with India, and exploring new export opportunities in footwear.
