Bangladesh suffered a heavy defeat against India
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh has suffered a heavy defeat against India in the semi-finals of the Nations Trophy. In the match held on Monday (October 19), India defeated the Bangladeshi side 47–13. India’s Bhavna was named player of the match, having scored 13 goals.
From the very start of the match at the Shaheed Captain M. Mansur Ali Handball Stadium in Paltan, India established complete dominance, leaving Bangladesh trailing. After falling behind 24–8 in the first half, the host team was unable to make a comeback. In the second half, the Indian women continued to score at a steady pace.
The Bangladeshi women simply could not keep up with them; they only managed to narrow the margin of defeat slightly. Ultimately, Bangladesh suffered a heavy 47–13 loss to India, ending their dreams of reaching the final.
After the match, the common sentiment expressed by the Bangladeshi players and their coach was that they had been overwhelmed by the height and speed of the Indian players.
Reflecting on the experience, Bhavna said, “This is my third time here. I’ve played in the league here twice before for a local club. It feels wonderful to be back. The people here are very kind and supportive, and the accommodation arrangements are excellent.”Expressing optimism about winning the final, she said, "Our team's coordination is excellent. We will return from the final with a medal."
India defeated the Maldives in their opening match. Having won two consecutive games, the Indian women's team has secured a spot in the final with one match still to play. They will face Nepal tomorrow.
Although Bangladesh lost today, their hopes of reaching the final remain alive. If they can defeat the Maldives in the final match of the league stage tomorrow, Bangladesh will join India in the final.
Following the defeat to India, the Bangladesh team's Spanish coach, Ana Alonso, remarked, "The outcome of today's match reflects the reality between the two nations. On one side is India, a team that has been working extremely hard for the past year; on the other is Bangladesh—a team that is also working hard, albeit at a different level."
"Naturally, there are differences in our physical conditioning and handball skills, which are evident on the court. However, our goal is to improve and perform better in the coming months and years, so that we can compete against opponents like India," she added.
Tomorrow, in the first match of the day at 2:00 PM, India will face Nepal. In the second match, scheduled for 4:30 PM, hosts Bangladesh will take on the Maldives.
