Bangladeshi day-care teacher arrested in Georgia for inciting children to fight
Ema Alice: A Bangladeshi day-care teacher was arrested last year in Evans, Georgia, on charges of cruelty to children after allegedly provoking children to fight.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Riffat Tahmin Khalil was arrested on Monday, July 28, last year.
Her arrest stems from an incident involving two siblings at Discovery Zone Kids, 703 William Smith Blvd. in Evans. Upon speaking with the parent, deputies learned that the day care contacted her to pick up her children after an incident between them.
The parent told deputies her children were upset and stated “the teacher Ms. Khalil made them fight,” according to the incident report.
The report states when deputies arrived at the day care, the owner provided them with video footage.
Deputies say the children were prompted by Khalil to fight.
After the fight, Khalil forcibly grabbed one of the kids, swung her into a chair and shook her several times, according to the report.
Khalil then prompted one of the siblings to throw a chair at the other, according to the report.
The report states the incident stopped when another teacher entered the room and removed one of the children.
Khalil is currently booked into the Columbia County jail and is charged with three counts of cruelty to children. Her bond is set at $75,300.
