Bangladeshi Tourist Killed as Drunk Soldier Crashes Car in Malaysia
Bangla Press Desk: Joy has quickly turned into devastation for a Bangladeshi couple in Malaysia, as a road accident involving an allegedly intoxicated driver cut short their holiday just after they had arrived in Kuala Lumpur.
The husband was killed and his wife left injured, reports the New Straits Times.
The dead, Muzahid Millad, 22, had travelled with his wife, Nafisa Tabassum Adiba, 20, from Habiganj for a week-long vacation, marking their second visit to Malaysia.
The couple had just landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Thursday morning, moments before the incident unfolded.
Family sources said a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old Malaysian soldier, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, crashed into the taxi carrying the couple.
Muzahid died at the scene, while Nafisa sustained a broken leg and was admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur, where she is undergoing treatment.
The couple had been married for two years and had no children.
Nafisa’s uncle Mohibul Hasan, a migrant worker in Malaysia, said they had arrived as tourists.
“They were here on holiday,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the crash had left the family devastated.
Seeking justice, he questioned the circumstances of the incident and demanded accountability for drink-driving.
The 31-year-old soldier has been arrested.
Another relative Alamgir said arrangements were being made with assistance from the Bangladeshi High Commission to repatriate Muzahid’s body to Bangladesh for burial in their hometown once formalities are completed.
