Barapukuria power plant back online after repairs
Bangla Press Desk: The Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur has resumed electricity generation after repairing a technical fault, restoring partial supply to the national grid.
On Friday, the 125MW unit-1 returned to operation and is now supplying 55MW of electricity to the national grid, said Chief Engineer Md Abu Bakar Siddique of the plant.
The coal-fired plant holds a total capacity of 525MW, consisting of two 125MW units and a third unit capable of producing 275MW.
Unit 2 has remained fully shut since 2020 due to a major breakdown, while Unit 3 has been offline since October for overhaul work.
On Apr 22, Unit 1 was forced to shut down completely after a boiler pipe ruptured when stones mixed with coal entered the system, halting production at 10:10pm.
Repairs have now been completed, allowing the unit to restart operations on Friday.
The chief engineer noted that the third unit should be operational by the middle of this month.
