Bashundhara Eye Hospital’s Free Surgery Programme Helps 36 Patients

Bangla Press Desk:  Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute has conducted free eye surgeries on 36 underprivileged patients in collaboration with Ma Amena Gafur Charitable Hospital in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.

The patients were selected during a free eye camp organised in Mandarpur union of Kasba on 7 July. They were later brought to Dhaka for three days of medical examinations and pre-operative tests. The hospital also bore the costs of their accommodation, transportation and meals.

Of the 36 patients, 30 underwent cataract surgery, while the remaining six received pterygium surgery.

The surgeries were supervised by Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed, honorary director of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute and founding president of the Vision Care Foundation.

He said the initiative aims to provide quality eye care to poor, underprivileged and visually impaired people who cannot afford treatment.

Administrative Officer of the hospital Md Masudur Rahman said the institution regularly organises free eye camps under the supervision of the Bashundhara Foundation and has so far provided free eye surgeries to more than 6,000 patients.

He said the programme is being implemented under the guidance of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, with the Vision Care Foundation overseeing its execution.

The patients are scheduled to undergo follow-up examinations on Friday before receiving medicines and returning to their homes.
