BCB ACU finds three players guilty
Bangla Press Desk:  A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed that the board’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has found three players guilty over two controversial dismissals during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) match between Shinepukur Cricket Club and Gulshan Cricket Club earlier this year. ACU officials stated they have gathered sufficient evidence, including forensic analysis, to support their findings and will submit the report to BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul upon his return to the country. The probe focused on Shinepukur batters Rahim Ahmed and Minhazul Abedin Sabbir, whose unusual stumpings against Gulshan in March sparked outrage and suspicions of foul play. Both players were asked to re-enact their dismissals as part of the investigation. According to an ACU source, the incidents were premeditated and allegedly signalled by another Shinepukur player during a drinks break. “A signal was sent in during the drinks break,” an official closely monitoring the case told Daily Sun.
Investigators also uncovered other irregularities involving the players. “They never went to the USA but have a USA number. Furthermore, some of them have five Gmail accounts but don’t know the passwords,” the official said, referring to suspicious findings from the inquiry. The controversy began when Shinepukur batter Rahim was stumped by Gulshan wicketkeeper Alif Hasan Emon after carelessly stepping out to left-arm spinner Nihaduzzaman in the 36th over, making no attempt to return to the crease. Sabbir’s dismissal in the 44th over off Gulshan’s Naeem Islam provoked even greater outrage. The batter appeared to kneel inside the crease and allowed himself to be stumped without resistance. After missing the delivery, he had an opportunity to ground his bat as the wicketkeeper fumbled the first attempt to remove the bails. Instead, Sabbir moved in slow motion, inches from safety, and failed to place his bat down before the bails were finally dislodged. Both dismissals immediately triggered a social media storm and intense scrutiny from the cricketing fraternity. Former Bangladesh internationals were quick to condemn the actions — Shamsur Rahman called them “seriously shameful,” while Shahriar Nafees shared video clips on his social platforms with the caption “Disgraceful,” echoing the sentiments of many fans and pundits.
In response, the BCB ACU launched a detailed investigation, interviewing players and coaching staff from both teams. Rahim and Sabbir were notably asked to re-enact their dismissals at the BCB Academy Ground in Mirpur. The re-enactments were filmed and assessed alongside other forensic evidence to determine whether the actions constituted intentional underperformance or match manipulation. However, BCB officials disclosed they found no evidence against club officials involved in the game. The ACU has also recommended that the BCB strengthen its domestic integrity measures, including clearer player codes of conduct and tighter match supervision across all levels of domestic competition.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
