Bangla Press Desk: Bidisha Siddik, former wife of late president Huseyn Muhammad Ershad, walked out of jail on Tuesday after securing bail in a fraud case.
She left the Kashimpur Women Central Jail around 5pm, after the jail authorities received and verified the court’s bail-related documents, said the prison’s jailer Aliva Sharmin.On 6 September, a High Court bench granted her bail after a trial court had imposed a two-year prison term in a fraud case.
On 25 August, she was arrested from a restaurant in Gulshan. The police produced her before the court the following day, and the judge sent her to prison, denying her bail plea.
Earlier, on 20 May, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate sentenced her to two years in prison on allegations she committed fraud in the name of selling residential apartments.
She was also ordered to pay Tk10,000 fine or spent additional one month in prison upon failure to pay up.
As Bidisha was absent during the hearing, the court issued an arrest warrant.
