Bangla Press Desk: A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight that had been stranded in Rome due to a technical fault has been repaired and is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 12:30pm on Sunday, according to the airline.
Bosra Islam, general manager (public relations) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, confirmed the development in a message on Sunday morning.
"Insha Allah, the flight will arrive in Dhaka from Rome at 12:24pm Bangladesh time. Thank you all immensely for your patience," she said.
Engineers and spare parts sent to Rome
Biman had earlier sent a team of engineers and the necessary spare parts to Rome to repair the aircraft operating flight BG306.
The Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG305 flight carrying the engineers and spare parts landed at Rome's Fiumicino Airport at 11:16pm Bangladesh time on Saturday.
According to Biman sources, the engineering team was sent from Dhaka along with the required spare parts to make the stranded Boeing 777-300ER operational as quickly as possible.
After arriving in Rome, the engineers began work to identify and rectify the aircraft's technical problem.
Flight stranded since Friday
The technical fault was detected at around 7:20am local time on Friday, 7 August, while the aircraft was undergoing routine refuelling.The BG306 flight remained stranded at Rome's Fiumicino Airport following the incident.
The flight had departed Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada for Dhaka at 5:18pm local time on Thursday.
After flying for around eight hours, it landed at Fiumicino Airport at 7:19am local time on Friday.
More than 250 passengers were on board the aircraft.
Following the disruption, Biman Bangladesh Airlines arranged hotel accommodation, food and other necessary assistance for the passengers who were stranded in Rome.
