BNP approves committee with a 'boat' nomination seeker as president

Gias Rony, Noakhali Correspondent: Saifuddin Babul—known for having sought an Awami League nomination in the most recent election for the Kaladrap Union Parishad in Noakhali Sadar Upazila—has been elected president of the Noakhali Sadar Deed Writers' Association. He previously served as the president of the Noakhali Bangabandhu Deed Writers' Association. Faruk Hossain Nayan, the former president of the municipal unit of the Swechasebak Dal, has been elected general secretary of the new committee.
On Thursday (October 15), Mahbub Alamgir Alo, the convener of the Noakhali District BNP, and Harunur Rashid Azad, the member secretary, approved the newly formed committee.
The nine-member committee includes Abdur Rahim as senior vice-president, Jasim Uddin as vice-president, Ismail Hossain as assistant general secretary, Gias Uddin as organizing secretary, and Ala Uddin as treasurer. Alamgir Hossain and Rashed Rana serve as committee members.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the election of Saifuddin Babul as president has caused dissatisfaction among some deed writers. Several deed writers, who wished to remain anonymous, alleged that Babul’s actions during the tenure of the previous Awami League government harmed the professional interests of deed writers and compromised the quality of services at the Sadar Sub-Registry Office. They claim that, as a result of these incidents, his license to practice as a deed writer was previously revoked.
The complainants further allege that although Babul was previously involved with Awami League politics, his political stance shifted following the events of August 5. They question the appropriateness of his election as president of the Deed Writers' Association, given his background. Consequently, they have called for a reconsideration of the appointment, urging that a person truly committed to the nationalist (BNP-aligned) cause be placed in the position of president of the Noakhali Sadar Deed Writers' Association.
Sayem Sohan, president of the Noakhali District Deed Writers' Association, stated that he is unaware of how Saifuddin Babul came to be appointed president of this committee, noting that the convener and member secretary of the District BNP would be better positioned to explain.
Mahbub Alamgir Alo, the convener of the District BNP, confirmed the approval of the Noakhali Sadar Deed Writers' Association committee. He explained that Babul was once actively involved in BNP politics, but later aligned himself with the Awami League after facing various personal and business-related difficulties. Having expressed regret for his past actions, he is now working for the BNP once again; consequently, he has been appointed president of the Document Writers' Association.
