BNP candidate Mirza Foysal Amin exchanges views with journalists in Ruhiya.
Dulal Haque, Ruhiya (Thakurgaon) Correspondent: On Saturday (October 10) afternoon, Mirza Faisal Amin, the BNP-nominated candidate for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency (comprising Thakurgaon Sadar, Ruhiya, and Bhulli), held an exchange meeting with local media personnel at the Ruhiya Upazila Press Club office.
He was officially nominated as the party's candidate via a letter signed by the BNP's Acting Secretary General on October 7 and was allocated the 'Sheaf of Paddy' (Dhaner Sheesh) symbol by the Returning Officer's office on October 8. He is the younger brother of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the District BNP President and the newly elected President of the party.
During the meeting, Mirza Faisal Amin stated that the Thakurgaon-1 constituency has long been deprived of development. He pledged that, if elected, he would prioritize making Ruhiya and Bhulli fully functional Upazilas, ensuring fair prices for farmers, improving the quality of education and healthcare, and creating employment opportunities for the youth. He sought the cooperation of journalists for a free, fair, and peaceful election and vowed to conduct his campaign in compliance with the electoral code of conduct.
Present at the event were Ruhiya Upazila Press Club President Mazharul Islam Badal, General Secretary Apel Mahmud, Vice-Presidents Faruk Hossain and Kudrat Ali, along with Alamgir Hossain, Akash Rahman, Dulal Haque, Ahsan Habib Rubel, Ibrahim Zaman, and other journalists from local print and electronic media. The journalists posed various questions to the candidate regarding the election atmosphere, local issues, and development plans.
It is worth noting that the Thakurgaon-1 seat was declared vacant following Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's election as the party's President. According to the schedule, voting for this constituency will take place on October 29. The constituency has a total of 516,138 voters. Besides the BNP, candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, and Bangladesh Congress are also contesting this by-election.
