BNP condemns shooting of Osman Hadi, announces nationwide demo Saturday
Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has strongly condemned and protested the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, who was critically injured after being shot by miscreants in the capital this afternoon.
He is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In a statement issued by the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday, BNP said, “This attack is part of a far‑reaching and sinister plan. Undoubtedly, it is a blueprint aimed at spreading terrorism to sabotage the electoral environment. A vested quarter is attempting to fish in troubled waters through such acts of terrorism.”The party alleged that deliberate attempts are being made to spread fear and panic in society for political gains. “Violent terrorists are being deployed to achieve narrow political objectives. A conspiratorial group is trying to push the country into chaos to obstruct the democratic journey achieved during the student‑public uprising of July–August 2024,” the statement read.
The BNP said the tragic shooting of independent candidate Osman Hadi is a brutal manifestation of these destructive activities. It urged the public to remain vigilant against acts of sabotage intended to derail democracy and disrupt the upcoming parliamentary election.
“There is no alternative to taking tough action against these militant saboteurs. To protect democracy, the people’s voting rights, and the lives and property of citizens, people of all classes and professions must remain united, regardless of political affiliation. Otherwise, the lurking terrorists will rise and endanger the nation’s very existence,” the statement added.
The BNP demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for the attack and wished a speedy recovery for the critically injured Osman Hadi.
BNP to hold nationwide protest over attack on Osman Hadi
In protest of the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi and demanding a fair and swift investigation, the BNP will hold a nationwide demonstration on Saturday.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement on Friday afternoon while speaking to journalists.
