BNP Leadership Gives Tarique Rahman Mandate Over Presidential Nomination

Bangla Press Desk:  BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the party has entrusted its Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with the responsibility of finalising the presidential candidate and deciding the timing of the presidential election.

He made the remarks while briefing reporters on Saturday (1 August) night following a meeting of the BNP Standing Committee at the party chairman’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

The meeting, chaired by Tarique Rahman, lasted for more than one and a half hours. It was attended by Standing Committee members Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku, Selima Rahman and Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.

Besides the presidential election, the meeting also discussed the country's current political situation and the organisational activities of the BNP, Fakhrul said.
