BNP vows to clamp down on corruption at any cost: Tarique Rahman

Bangla Press Desk:  BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said his party will crack down on corruption at any cost if it wins the upcoming national parliamentary elections and forms the government.

Issuing a strong warning, he said there would be “no compromise on corruption or law and order”.

He made the remarks on Sunday (25 January) while addressing a BNP-organised mass rally at Chattogram’s Polo Ground as the chief guest.

Tarique Rahman said that if the BNP emerged victorious in the election on the 12th February, the party would prioritise two key issues — public security and corruption.

“The government will ensure that people can conduct business and work safely. The law and order situation will be improved. If the offender happens to be someone from our own party, they will also be punished,” he said.

Reiterating his zero-tolerance stance on corruption, he added: “If we come to power, the BNP will clamp down on corruption at any cost.”

He also remarked that a criminal’s identity should not be judged by political affiliation.

Tarique Rahman further said that if elected, his party would move as quickly as possible to transform Chattogram into the country’s commercial capital.

He recalled that although the BNP had taken initiatives to develop Chattogram as a commercial capital after coming to power in 2001, those efforts had not been implemented over the past 17 years.
