Bodies of Three Recovered from Shitalakkhya in Narsingdi
Bangla Press Desk: Three bodies have been recovered after four people went missing in the Shitalakkhya River in Narsingdi’s Shibpur.
A diving team from Bhairab in Kishoreganj joined the rescue operation on Saturday morning and recovered the bodies, said Islam Khan, a leader at Shibpur Fire Service.
The dead are Md Obaidullah, 38, of Bhangal village in Gazipur’s Kaliganj; Ms Shanta, 16, from Phulbaria village in Kapasia; and Saurav, 18, from Shibpur.
Md Shanto, 24, of Tangail district, is still missing, according to a bdnews24.com report.
The incident occurred around 4:30 pm on Friday in the river near Lakhpur village in Dulalpur Union of Shibpur Upazila.
Police, Fire Service officials and local residents said three people had gone to Majnu Mia’s house in Lakhpur village for a visit. In the afternoon, they went to the Shitalakkhya to bathe with members of the household.
At one point, the three drowned as they could not swim. Saurav also went into the river to rescue them but was swept away by the strong current.
The others with them informed local residents, who searched the river but could not find anyone.
Fire Service personnel arrived at the scene around 4:30 pm and began searching the river, but failed to locate any of the four.
The search was suspended after nightfall and resumed on Saturday morning.
Islam said the diving team from Bhairab arrived at the scene on Saturday morning and began the recovery operation. It initially recovered two bodies and later found the third.
The search for the remaining missing person is continuing, he said.
