BUET student Sony murder case convict Togor arrested with weapons
Bangla Press Desk: Mushfiq Uddin Togor, a convicted defendant in the 2002 murder of BUET student Sabekun Nahar Sony, has been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion. Togor, who was released from prison on special consideration, was detained by RAB-3 on Thursday from Azimpur of Dhaka for involvement in the illegal arms trade. According to RAB, a revolver, a magazine, a wooden pistol grip, 155 rounds of ammunition, spent shotgun cartridges, two masks, and two mobile phones were seized from his possession during the arrest. At a press briefing held at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar on Friday (19 September), RAB-3 Commanding Officer Lt Colonel Fayezul Arefin confirmed the arrest.
He said that during initial interrogation, Togor admitted to procuring illegal arms from border areas and supplying them to various individuals in Dhaka. He added that further operations would be carried out based on the information provided. Lt Colonel Arefin further stated that Togor had been arrested on 24 June 2002 in connection with the Soni murder case and, after serving a lengthy sentence, was released on 20 August 2020 under special government consideration. However, following his release, he became active in drug and arms trafficking. Asked about the recovered masks, the RAB official said Togor often used them to conceal his identity. Investigators would determine whether the masks were also used for other criminal activities. This article was originally published on Daily Sun. [Bangla Press is a global platform for free thought.
