Canal Excavation Work Begins at Tolarbag in Mirpur
Bangla Press Desk: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Khan on Monday inaugurated the excavation and cleaning work of Tolarbag canal in Mirpur.
The canal stretch extends from Mirpur Mazar Road to Gabtoli Main Road.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Mirpur, the administrator stressed the need to ensure quality work, proper supervision and timely completion of the project.
He said providing a livable city remains DNCC’s top priority and assured that public funds collected through taxes would be properly utilised in necessary sectors.
Shafiqul Islam Khan also warned against substandard work by contractors, saying strict monitoring would ensure no one takes payment without maintaining quality.
“All works must be completed within the stipulated timeframe mentioned in the tender,” he said.
He added that DNCC is working to ensure all civic services and the ongoing activities must not be disrupted under any circumstances.
Highlighting his personal oversight, the administrator said he regularly visits project sites and approves bills only after being satisfied with the work progress.
Emphasising the importance of keeping canals clean to control mosquito breeding, he said stagnant and polluted water serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes, urging city dwellers not to dump waste into canals.
He also mentioned that preparations are underway for waste management ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
According to the plan, the city will be cleaned within six hours on Eid day, followed by continuous cleaning operations for 72 hours, he added.
The programme was chaired by Regional Executive Officer of Zone-4 Jalal Uddin.
Among others, DNCC Chief Engineer Brig Gen Syed Rakibul Hasan and other officials were present.
