Carrying others’ NIDs or promising donations during campaigns punishable: EC
Bangla Press Desk: The Election Commission (EC) today warned that carrying or transferring one's National Identity Card (NID) and promising donations during election campaigns are punishable offences under the law.
In a press release issued this afternoon, the EC said it has come to its attention that ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, slated for February 12, certain individuals are collecting voters’ personal information and NID details.
The commission stressed that no one is permitted to carry, collect or hand over another person’s NID.
The press release was signed by the EC’s Director (Public Relations), Ruhul Amin Mollik.
The EC also said that under the Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates 2024, no political party, candidate or anyone acting on their behalf may provide or pledge to provide any form of subscription, donation or gift to individuals, groups or institutions within an electoral area.
Urging citizens and organisations to refrain from such practices, the commission cautioned that any violation would be treated as a punishable offence.
