Case filed over brutality on stray dog in Bogura
Bangla Press Desk: A case has been filed with Bogura Sadar Police Station against a local furniture trader for alleged brutality on stray dog.
Accused Md Swapan, a resident of the Kanchhgari Pukurpar area, allegedly inflicting serious injuries on the stray dog with a sharp weapon in the Kanchhgari area of Bogura town.
The complaint was lodged on Monday (29 June) by Md Emran Hossain, convener member of the Bogura chapter of the Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association (BAWA).
According to the complaint, Emran Hossain rushed to a lane west of Independent Hospital in Kanchhgari after receiving a phone call on Monday afternoon. There, he found a seriously injured black-and-white stray dog lying in a roadside drain. With the assistance of two local residents, SM Sadikul Islam and Rafid Yasad, the animal was rescued and taken to a veterinary clinic in Jaleshwaritala for treatment.
The complainant said that officials from the Upazila Livestock Office, along with a team of veterinarians from the District Livestock Department, provided medical treatment to the injured dog. The animal reportedly showed signs of recovery after receiving treatment.
The complaint further alleges that local inquiries indicated the accused had attacked the dog with a sharp object, causing severe injuries. It also states that filing the complaint was delayed because rescuers were occupied with the animal's treatment and consulted with leaders of the animal welfare organisation before approaching the police.
Bogura Sadar Police Station has accepted the complaint and initiated legal proceedings in connection with the allegations.
