Charge sheets filed against 116 individuals, including 'fascist' Hasina, in three cases related to the 2024 events

Bangla Press Desk: Following investigations into three cases—involving two murders and one attempted murder during the mass uprising in July 2024—the police have submitted charge sheets against 116 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who led the fascist regime.

Conversely, the investigating officers have recommended that 303 individuals be dropped from the cases, as their involvement could not be substantiated.

Of the three cases, 43 individuals have been named as accused in the murder of electrician Elias Hossain, 49 in the murder of Raihan Akon, and 24 in the attempted murder of auto-rickshaw driver Mehedi Hasan.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is named in the charge sheets for all three cases. Other prominent figures named as accused include former Road Transport and Bridges Minister and General Secretary of the now-banned Awami League, Obaidul Quader, and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

Elias Murder Case: 43 Accused, Including Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

On August 4, 2024, electrician Elias Hossain was shot in the capital’s Mohammadpur area. He passed away on August 9, 2024, after undergoing treatment for five days.

Following this, Elias’s father, Faruk Khan, filed a case on September 28, 2024, naming 102 individuals—including Sheikh Hasina—as accused, alongside 300 unidentified others.

Upon completion of the investigation, Sub-Inspector (SI) Akkel Ali of Mohammadpur Police Station submitted a charge sheet to the court, naming 43 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina.

He has recommended that 66 of the individuals originally named in the First Information Report (FIR) be excluded from the charges.

In addition to Sheikh Hasina, the charge sheet includes her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, his brother and Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, and Awami League Presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak.

The list of accused also includes Masudur Rahman Biplob (personal assistant to Nanak), as well as former Members of Parliament Sadek Khan, Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, and AKM Sarwar Jahan Badsha. Others named include former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Detective Branch (DB) chief Harun-or-Rashid, former Joint Commissioner of Police Biplab Kumar Sarkar, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan, Dhaka Metropolitan North Chhatra League President Riaz Mahmud Hridoy, and former councilors Asif Ahmed and Tarequzzaman Rajib.

Those recommended for exclusion from the charges include Rafiqul Islam, Zainal Abedin, Faruk, Ratan, Abhi Khan, Riaz Mir, his brother Khokon Mir, and Rony Bepari.

The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) Akkel Ali, stated, "I have submitted the charge sheet. I cannot comment any further."

According to SI Mizanur Rahman from the prosecution division, the case is scheduled for a hearing on November 16 in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque.

The case details state that on August 4, 2024, during a protest in front of the Allah Karim Mosque in Mohammadpur, police, along with members of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations, opened fire. Elias was struck by gunfire; he was rushed to a hospital but passed away on August 9.

Elias’s brother, Mohsin Khan, alleged that his brother had been assaulted by Chhatra League members on June 24, 2024. About a week prior to that, Elias had taken a loan of 220,000 taka to purchase stock for his shop.

Mohsin alleges that members of the "Didar Bahini" (Didar’s gang) took the money and threatened to kill him if he spoke to anyone about the incident.

Mohsin said, "I am involved with the BNP. Because of this, they attacked my brother and me as well." After receiving treatment at a hospital in Barishal for four days, his brother returned to Dhaka on June 28.

According to Mohsin, Elias had become upset with him—to the point of stopping communication—because he believed he had been assaulted specifically due to Mohsin’s political involvement. Mohsin stated that he last spoke with his brother on August 2. Elias was working in Dhaka with an individual named Nayan, who called to inform him that Elias had been struck by a rubber bullet and suggested that he be taken home.

Mohsin added, "When I tried calling him, he didn't answer. Later, he called me back. I told him to come home, but he replied that if he returned, the Chhatra League members would beat him again—all because he had participated in the protests. On August 4, he was shot once more. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and subsequently to the National Institute of Neurosciences."

He mentioned that although they traveled to Dhaka on August 6, he was never able to speak with his brother again. Elias passed away on August 9.

Demanding justice for his brother’s murder, Mohsin asserted, "We will not accept it if those involved in the killing are excluded from the charge sheet. Individuals like Hasnat Abdullah and Didar—who brought protesters from Barishal to Dhaka—must not be left out; if they are, we will not accept it. We will not tolerate a situation where those who killed my brother are allowed to roam freely right before our eyes. We demand justice for the perpetrators."

Rafiqul Islam, Elias’s brother-in-law, added, "We filed the case seeking justice. We want justice."

Raihan Murder Case: Charge Sheet Filed Against 49 Individuals

On August 5, 2024—the final day of the July Uprising—Raihan Akon, a loader at the Banasree branch of Sundarban Courier Service, was shot in the Badda U-loop area of the capital.

He was subsequently taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors at approximately 4:00 PM that same day.

Following the incident, Raihan’s father, Kamal Hossain, filed a case on April 28, 2025, naming 236 individuals—including Sheikh Hasina—as accused.

Upon completing the investigation, Sub-Inspector (SI) Suman Mia of Badda Police Station submitted a charge sheet to the court on September 27, naming 49 individuals (including Sheikh Hasina) as accused, while recommending that the other 236 individuals be dropped from the case.
