Chattogram floods trigger spike in snakebite cases
Bangla Press Desk: Snake infestations have increased in the areas of flood-hit Chattogram due to continuous rainfall and flash floods from the hills. At least 75 people have been injured by snakebites over the past few days. However, no deaths have been reported so far.
Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Jahangir Alam disclosed the information on Sunday (12 July) afternoon, saying that upazila health complexes have been equipped with antivenom and other necessary medical supplies to treat snakebite victims.
He also said that special medical teams are working in the areas of flood-hit Chattogram, providing healthcare services, essential medicines and oral rehydration saline (ORS). Instructions have also been issued to ensure that pregnant women and seriously ill children are transported promptly by boat to nearby hospitals when necessary.Meanwhile, the death toll from floods and landslides in five districts has risen to 51. The fatalities include three in Rangamati, six in Bandarban, 28 in Cox's Bazar, 13 in Chattogram and one in Moulvibazar.
In addition, 39 people have been injured—one in Khagrachhari, two in Bandarban, 24 in Cox's Bazar and 12 in Chattogram.
