Chattogram police seize five lakh yaba pills, nine held
Bangla Press Desk: Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested nine individuals, including five Rohingyas, along with 500,000 pieces of yaba tablets, from a fishing trawler in Chattogram city on Saturday.
The arrested Rohingyas are Syed Alam, Sultan Ahmed, Mohammad Yusuf, Mohammad Kasim, and Mohammad Ismail. Other arrestees include Shah Alam, Azam Ullah, Mohammad Faruk, and Sanaullah, residents of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar.Sources said a team of RAB-7 conducted a drive in the No 15 Ghat area of the Karnaphuli River in the early hours of Saturday.
They seized the yaba tablets packed in three sacks from a fishing trawler and apprehended the individuals.
RAB-7 Commanding Officer Lt Col Md Hafizur Rahman told the Daily Sun that the arrestees are members of an organised smuggling gang that brings yaba tablets from bordering areas to sell them in Chattogram.
He added that the estimated market value of the seized yaba tablets is around Tk15 crore.
