Bangla Press Desk: The 55th historic Jashne Julus is being held in Chattogram on the occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi, with a large number of people arriving in the city since early morning to take part in the procession promoting peace, humanity, non-violence and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
People from various upazilas surrounding Chattogram, as well as different parts of the country, have been entering the city to join the procession.Some travelled by buses and trucks, while others walked towards the Muradpur and Sholoshahar areas. Long queues of people were seen on several roads from the early hours of the day.
The organisers, Anjuman-e-Rahmania Ahmadia Sunnia Trust, expect more than five million people to attend this year's procession.
Various roads and important intersections across the city have been decorated for the event with arches, banners, festoons and green flags, giving Chattogram a festive appearance.
The procession began at 8am on Wednesday from Alamgir Khanqah-e-Qaderia Syedia Tayebia, adjacent to Jamia Ahmadia Sunnia Kamil Madrasa in Sholoshahar.
Allama Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah, Sajjadanshin Pir of Darbar-e-Siricote, is leading the procession. Sahibzada Syed Muhammad Qasem Shah and Shahzada Syed Muhammad Aqib Shah are attending as guests.
The procession will pass through key areas including Muradpur, Gate No. 2, GEC intersection, WASA, Dampara, Lalkhan Bazar and Tigerpass before ending at the Jamia Ahmadia Sunnia Madrasa ground.
A religious gathering, Zuhr prayers and a special prayer for the prosperity of the country and its people will be held there.
Preparations and decorations for the event have been underway in several parts of the city for the past few days. Arches of various designs have been erected in Sholoshahar, Muradpur, GEC, WASA, Lalkhan Bazar and Tigerpass, while flags and banners have been displayed along roads and on various buildings.Around 10,000 volunteers from the Anjuman Trust will work alongside law enforcement agencies to maintain order and ensure security, according to the organisers. More than 100 temporary toilets have also been installed in and around the madrasa area for the convenience of participants.
According to the organisers, the first Jashne Julus in Chattogram was held in 1974 under the guidance of Awlad-e-Rasul Allama Hafez Syed Muhammad Tayeb Shah (RA). The event has since been organised annually to mark Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasan Md Shawkat Ali said ensuring security at a large and sensitive gathering such as the Jashne Julus was a major responsibility for the police.
“There will be no compromise on discipline and integrity,” he said.
