Child dies after being swept away by tidal water
Gias Roni Noakhali Correspondent: A five-year-old child named Md. Mahi died tragically after drowning in the abnormal tidal water caused by low pressure in Hatiya, Dwip Upazila of Noakhali.
The incident occurred at around 1 pm on Friday (July 17) at the house of rickshaw driver Mamun in Molla village, ward number 5 of Nijhumdwip Union of the upazila. Later, at around 4 pm, the child's floating body was recovered from the illegal canal next to the house.
The deceased Mahi is the son of Md. Mamun of the same village.
Locals said that Mahi's father is a battery-powered auto-rickshaw driver by profession. In May this year, Mahi's father came to Molla village and started living in a new house. Molla village has been flooded with tidal water for the past few days due to the low pressure. At around 1 pm on Friday, Mahi's mother Tahmina Akhter left him at home and went out to get water from the tube well. At that time, the child came out of the house and was swept away by the tidal water. Later, at around 4 pm, neighbor Belal recovered the child's floating body from the canal next to the house.
Hatia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Kabir Hossain said that the child died after being swept away by the tidal water. Since the family had no complaints, the body was handed over to the relatives without an autopsy.
