China allows import of jackfruit from Bangladesh
Bangla Press Desk: China's Customs Department has approved the import of jackfruit from Bangladesh. The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka announced the approval on Wednesday (July 29). The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued the approval on July 27.
The approval states that China meets the import conditions and in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture of Bangladesh, with immediate effect, allows the import of jackfruit from Bangladesh.
Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding with China on jackfruit export during the Prime Minister's recent visit.
When China first started importing raw mangoes from Bangladesh in May last year, they also showed interest in importing fruits like jackfruit and guava. China is the largest importer of jackfruit. They meet a large part of their demand from Vietnam and Thailand.
On the other hand, although Bangladesh is one of the major jackfruit producing countries, the country's participation rate in the global market is low. Source: kaler kontho
