Chinese Visitor Found Dead in Uttara Hotel Room
Bangla Press Desk: Police have recovered the body of a Chinese national from a residential hotel in Dhaka's Uttara.
Md Khalid Mansur, officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station, said the body was recovered on Saturday morning around 9am after the incident at the hotel in Uttara's Sector 3 was reported to the police.
The deceased, identified as 40-year-old Chinese national Li Xingqiang, had been staying in room 905 of Bengal Hotel and Hospitality Limited. Three other Chinese nationals were staying in two other rooms at the same hotel.
The police official said three other Chinese nationals staying in two separate rooms at the same hotel had gone to his room and found him lying on the floor.
They subsequently informed hotel authorities, who alerted the police. Officers then recovered the body from the hotel room.
Police believe he died from excessive alcohol consumption, though the Khalid said this would only be confirmed following a post-mortem examination.
He noted that the hotel did not have a licence to sell or permit the consumption of alcohol on its premises, adding that "necessary action" would be taken over the matter.
Police are also investigating when the Chinese national arrived in Dhaka and for what purpose, and have informed the relevant authorities of the matter, as per the Khalid’s statement.
