BanglaPress Desk: Chris Lynn is well-known for his explosive batting on the cricket field. However, it is not his on-field performance that has brought him into the spotlight this time, but rather an incident involving drug use. The 36-year-old Australian batter has received a one-month ban for cocaine use. This action was taken after he tested positive during a doping control while playing in English domestic cricket—a fact confirmed by Cricbuzz.
The incident occurred in July of this year, while Lynn was playing for Northamptonshire in England’s T20 Blast. A sample was collected for a doping test on July 18—the tournament's 'Finals Day'—the same day Northamptonshire clinched the title. The test revealed the presence of cocaine metabolites.
Following this, Lynn was provisionally suspended on July 31. He subsequently admitted to having consumed cocaine between July 15 and 16. Cricket authorities clarified that the consumption took place outside of competition and was unrelated to his on-field performance.
One of the two anti-doping charges initially brought against Lynn was later withdrawn, as the concentration of the substance found in his sample fell below the threshold established by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had initially proposed a three-month ban; however, this was reduced to one month after Lynn committed to participating in a drug rehabilitation program. He completed the program on August 30, meaning his period of suspension has already concluded.
Lynn has represented Australia in four ODIs and 18 T20 Internationals. He has not appeared in any professional cricket matches since the commencement of his suspension, and he has yet to sign with any team for the upcoming Big Bash League season.
