Cold wave intensifies in Dhaka, temperature drops to 12.7°C

Bangla Press Desk:   Cold wave has intensified in the capital as winter tightened its grip, with the minimum temperature dropping to 12.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Residents of Dhaka experienced a sharp chill amid icy winds and dense fog, making the cold more severe during the early morning hours.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 13 degrees Celsius at 6:00am. At the same time, humidity levels stood at a high 99 percent, adding to the discomfort. The day’s lowest temperature was later recorded at 12.7 degrees Celsius.

The weather office said the prevailing conditions are likely to continue until around 1:00pm today. Dhaka and its surrounding areas may remain temporarily partly cloudy, while overall weather conditions are expected to stay dry.

Moderate to dense fog may persist in some areas, particularly during the morning. The BMD also forecast light winds blowing from the west or northwest at speeds of 6 to 12 kilometres per hour. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.

Meteorologists advised people, especially children and the elderly, to take necessary precautions against the cold as winter conditions continue to prevail across the capital.
