Connecticut man sentenced to 8 years in prison for shooting his girlfriend
Staff Reporter: A Hartford of Connecticut man will serve eight years in prison after he shot his girlfriend in 2024, according to the Hartford Superior Court Clerk’s Office.
Jayzon Gunter was sentenced to 20 years in prison suspended after eight years with three years of probation after he pleaded guilty first-degree attempted assault causing serious physical injury.
According to an arrest warrant, Gunter, who was 18 years old at the time, got into an argument with his girlfriend, an unidentified 16-year-old girl, at an apartment on Lenox Street on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024.
Witnesses heard a “pop” sound, according to the arrest warrant, and the victim was found inside the apartment “lying on her back and bleeding from her head.” Gunter was arrested the same day, according to the clerk’s office.
Gunter was initially charged with attempted murder, third-degree attempted strangulation, unlawful discharge of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit.
