Court imposes travel ban on NBR official Tarek, orders asset seizure
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Thursday imposed a travel ban on Additional Commissioner and First Secretary of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Md Tarek Hasan.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following two separate petitions filed by the investigation officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court also ordered the seizure of a flat registered in his name in Dhaka worth Tk52.85 lakh, and a piece of land in Chandpur worth Tk3.42 lakh.
The court also ordered the freezing of his two bank accounts, three fixed deposit receipts (FDRs), four life insurance policies, and three Beneficiary Owner (BO) accounts in his and his wife’s names.
According to the petition seeking the travel ban, an investigation into the asset statement of Tarek Hasan is ongoing. During the investigation, it was revealed that he may attempt to flee abroad, which would hamper the investigation. Therefore, in the interest of a proper investigation, it is necessary to restrict his foreign travel.
In the other petition, it was stated that Tarek Hasan was found to possess assets worth about Tk2.98 crore. He is attempting to transfer or dispose of these assets. Therefore, it is necessary to pass the seizure and freezing order in the interest of a proper investigation.
